Requirements
Minimum Investment
Titled real estate from $300,000, listed securities from $500,000, or a fixed-term bank deposit from $750,000. The current real estate minimum is $300,000; this is scheduled to increase to $500,000 on October 15, 2026. The investment must be in your name. Clean Criminal Background
You must pass standard background check requirements. Serious criminal convictions disqualify applicants.
Proof of Legitimate Funds
You must demonstrate the source of your investment capital: employment income, business profits, investment returns, inheritance, or asset sales.
Valid Passport
From any country. At least 6 months remaining validity.
Health Certificate
A basic medical exam confirming you are free of communicable diseases.
No Panamanian Criminal Record
Applicants with existing legal issues in Panama are not eligible.
What you don't need
No Language Test
Unlike Portugal, France, or Germany, Panama does not require a Spanish exam for residency.
No Age Limit
The program is open to applicants of any age. There is no minimum or maximum.
No Interview
There is no immigration interview, no case officer meeting, and no panel review.
No Nationality Quotas
Every country is treated equally. No per-country caps, no priority dates, no backlogs.
No Minimum Stay
You do not need to live in Panama full-time. Panama does not enforce a strict minimum stay requirement, though maintaining some periodic presence is recommended.
No Business Plan
Unlike investor visas in the US (E-2/EB-5) or UK, you do not need to create jobs or submit a business plan.
Family
Your application can include the following dependents at no additional investment requirement:
Your legal spouse, married or common-law, depending on applicable law. Dependent children, biological or legally adopted. Qualifying parents of you or your spouse. Exact dependent eligibility should be confirmed with an attorney.
Each dependent receives their own permanent residency card with full rights to live and work in Panama. Dependent documents (passport, background check, health certificate) must be submitted alongside yours. There is no limit on the number of qualifying dependents. Adult dependents incur a separate government fee, listed on the cost page.
Disqualifiers
The following will disqualify an application: a serious criminal conviction (felony-level offenses, fraud, money laundering, drug trafficking, terrorism); inability to demonstrate a legitimate source of funds; failing required background checks; existing legal proceedings in Panama; or providing false or forged documents.
Minor infractions (traffic violations, misdemeanors) generally do not disqualify applicants, but each case is assessed individually. If you have concerns about your background, raise them during the initial consultation, before investing time or money in the process.
Common questions
Applicants generally need a valid passport, a criminal background check, proof of the qualifying investment, and birth or marriage certificates when applicable. A Panamanian attorney prepares the application forms and confirms any additional documents required for the applicant and dependents.
Yes. Applicants must appear in Panama at least once for biometrics and other immigration formalities.
Yes. The QIP requires representation by a licensed Panamanian lawyer.
After approval, the applicant receives a permanent residency card. A tax residency certificate may also be available if the applicant needs one and meets the relevant requirements.

Permanent. You receive a provisional permit, followed by a permanent residency card. Timing varies by case. There is no renewal requirement. The residency is indefinite.
